Tarco Offers Industry’s Only Organic Mineral-Surfaced Self-Adhering Roof-Tile Underlayment for Tile Roof Systems in the Sun Belt

Patent Pending LeakBarrier™ Fast90™ Has No Exposure Limit

Tarco today announced LeakBarrier Fast90 self-adhering tile underlayment, a high-strength underlayment that is ideal for all roof-tile and slate-roof applications. Fast90 performs like a traditional 90# hot-mopped system, but offers many important advantages with regard to performance and cost. The easy-installation, labor savings and convenience of Fast90 especially appeals to contractors installing concrete or clay tile roofs in Florida and other Sun Belt states.

LeakBarrier Fast90 underlayment is suitable for residential and commercial use. Tarco reports that Fast90 meets the physical properties of ASTM D-3909 and ASTM D-1970 and has been approved by the Florida Building Commission (FBC Approval # FL 3227).

"Tarco is the only company to offer a tile underlayment like Fast90," said Steve Ratcliff, President of Tarco. "Installation of tile roofs has just become a whole lot easier, cleaner and safer."

Less Labor, No Exposure Limits

Installation is much faster using Fast90 tile underlayment rather than a traditional 90# hot-mopped system. Fast90 features an easy-to-handle, peel-and-stick, self-adhering bottom side. The bottom side has a self-adhering compound of high-tack, SBS-modified asphalt protected by a release film for easy installation. The coating of a styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) and asphalt makes the bottom tacky. Its adhesion strength is 30 pounds per foot of length as measured by the ASTM D-1970. Fast90 also has a 4-inch peel-and-stick selvage area.

Contractors enjoy a clean, easy-to-handle, peel-and-stick, self-adhering application using Fast90. There are no fumes during application; odors that would otherwise be caused by adhesives or hot asphalt are eliminated. This peel-and-stick feature results in major savings on labor compared to traditional 90# hot-mopped applications. Application involves simply peeling the release film and rolling out the membrane. No special tools are needed and no fumes or odors are released from torches, hot asphalt or volatile adhesives.

Labor and overhead savings are substantial because no hot-mopping is required. Installation times are typically 30 to 40 percent quicker for Fast90 compared to hot mopping. Some contractors report labor savings of more than 60 percent, for example, reducing the labor from five men times eight hours (40 man-hours) to two men times eight hours (16 man-hours) for the installation of 50 squares of underlayment.

Meanwhile, the granulated asphalt-coated topside is strong enough and tough enough to withstand the weight and local stresses of the tiles. For example, high-profile tiles can be stacked 8-10 high with no adverse effect. Furthermore, Fast90 has no exposure limitations. The underlayment protects the building from moisture until the tiles can be installed.

Available colors are white and cedar blend. The sheets are lightweight and easy to handle.
