TARCO EXPANDS SELF-ADHERING UNDERLAYMENT LINE WITH LEAKBARRIER SS400 ICE & WATER ARMOR

Underlayment Is Lightweight for Easy-Handling with a Smooth Upper Surface for Enhanced Skid Resistance

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS – Tarco today announced the addition of SS400 Ice and Water Armor to its line of LeakBarrier® underlayments products.

SS400 is a self-adhesive, modified-bituminous roofing underlayment reinforced with a heavyweight, fiberglass mat for use under asphalt shingles. A split-back release film allows for easy handling and installation. This film peels off to expose the adhesive, which adheres directly to concrete, plywood, wood composition board and gypsum sheathing decks.

An important advantage of the SS400 product compared to other self-adhering, ice-and-water underlayment is its lightness. A nominal two-square roll of SS400 weighs only 48 pounds compared to approximately 70 to 80 pounds for other similar products in the market. (Two-square rolls are 36 inches wide by 66.7 ft length.)

SS400 Ice and Water Armor is a smooth-surfaced, self-adhering sheet that protects the deck or interior of a building from ice damming and wind-driven rain. SS400 offers excellent skid resistance and walkability. SS400 self-seals around nails, preventing moisture penetration. It is effective in critical roofing areas such as valleys, ridges, coping joints, skylights, chimneys, vent stacks, dormers, low-slope sections and roof-to-wall intersections. It can also be installed over the entire roof as a secondary water barrier.

The 30-day exposure limit of SS400 allows flexibility in scheduling the installation of the primary roof. The use of SS400 as a waterproof secondary water barrier alleviates the risk associated with unexpected inclement weather, which could warp or compromise conventional felt if the primary roof is not installed right away.

SS400 self-adhering underlayment meets ASTM D-1970 as well as Miami-Dade County Approval NOA No. 08-0804.10. It is available for multiple climates and warranted to be free from manufacturer's defects.

And it's green too! SS400 is greener than most other self-adhering underlayment products because it is packaged in paper wrappers rather than cardboard boxes. Nearly 1300 pounds of cardboard would be needed to box a truckload of SS400. Paper wrapper is not only greener but also makes installation easier, because it is easier to handle and saves on waste disposal fees as there are no bulky cardboard boxes to dispose of after the job is complete.
