Tarco EasySystem™ Self-adhesive Membranes Achieve UL Class A Fire Rating

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS – Tarco today announced that Tarco LeakBarrier® EasySystem™ self-adhesive roofing membranes have achieved Class A fire rating from Underwriters Laboratories® Inc.

EasySystem is a family of two and three-ply roofing assemblies. The assemblies are capped with EasyStick™ Plus Fire Resistant self-adhering cap sheet, which is reinforced with polyester; and the base layer of all assemblies consists of EasyBase™ Fire Resistant self-adhering base sheet, which is reinforced with fiberglass.

For the three-ply assemblies, there are two options for the mechanically attached, base ply. The first option is EasyLay®, which is a polyester reinforced underlayment. This option results in a system that has two layers of polyester reinforcement. The second option is SBS Multipurpose® underlayment, which is a fiberglass reinforced underlayment. This option results in a system that has two layers of fiberglass reinforcement.

"The unique feature of this fire-resistant system is its versatility," says Steve Ratcliff, President of Tarco. "A three-ply membrane could be assembled with two plies of polyester reinforcement [i.e., EasyStick Plus FR cap sheet and EasyLay underlayment] or two plies of fiberglass reinforcement [i.e., EasyBase base sheet and SBS Multi-purpose underlayment]. This versatility provides flexibility to roof designers. Specifiers can match the roofing assembly to the structural demands of the roofing system."

For all of these assemblies, the fire ratings are extended to combustible as well as non-combustible roof decks.

Tarco achieved Class A fire classification with and without the inclusion of Barrier Boards, Insulation, and Roof Coatings. The UL approval incorporates various barrier boards such as US Gypsum Securock® gypsum-fiber roof board as well as Georgia Pacific DensDeck Prime®, DensDeck Prime2®, and DensDeck DuraGuard® Roof Boards. Any UL Classified insulation may be used in these assemblies. Roof coatings include Karnak Corporation's elastomeric reflective coating.

EasyStick Plus FR cap sheet is available in several standard shingle colors, including White, Black, Cedar (Tan), Weatherwood, Green, Red and Brown. EasyBase FR base sheet has a unique polyolefinic film on the top surface that allows for 30-day exposure rating. EasyLay is an asphalt-based high-performance polyester reinforced underlayment, which is truly unique in the industry.
