Tarco Offers Four Different LeakBarrier® Underlayments for Metal Roofing

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS – Metal roofing projects are each distinct with contractors and specifiers having different preferences for underlayment. Tarco now offers four different underlayment products for metal roofing applications, including three self-adhering underlayment products and one nailable asphalt saturated polyester product. Two key attributes of a metal roofing underlayment are 1) a non-abrasive anti-skid surface and 2) tolerance of high temperatures.

A specially engineered Hybrid Polymer System formulation allows the three self-adhering underlayment products from the LeakBarrier® Ice and Water Armor product line to withstand the high temperatures often reached beneath a metal roof.

PS200^HT is topped with a polyester fabric while PS200^MU has a nonabrasive polyolefinic film; both of these contain glass fiber reinforcement, which imparts high dimensional stability. NR500^HT is a premium 40 mil (1 mm) thick, non-reinforced roofing underlayment with an upper surface of cross-laminated polyethylene-based Valeron film. All three of these self-adhering underlayment products have a split-back release film that peels off for easy installation and handling. Each of these metal underlayment products is covered by a "Thirty Year Self Adhesive Metal and Tile Underlayment Material Warranty." Depending on the application and climate, metal roofers could also have a fourth choice. EasyLay® is a high performance polyester (HPP) asphalt saturated underlayment that is tear-resistant, lightweight and sure-footed. It lays flat and allows up to 180 days of exposure but handles the same as saturated felt.

"Each has distinct handling and performance characteristics with regard to walkability, temperature resistance and strength," says Steve Ratcliff, President of Tarco.
