New Shingle Starter from Tarco Has Self-Adhering Bottom Side for Easy Installation
Seven-Inch Rolls Ensure Proper Shingle Alignment and Reduce Waste
Tarco today announced LeakBarrier™ Self-Adhering Quick Roll Shingle Starter, a fiberglass reinforced, asphalt-coated roll for use as a shingle-starter course. The top side is surfaced with ceramic granules to protect against UV, weathering and physical damage; the bottom side has a self-adhering compound of a high tack SBS modified asphalt protected by a release film for easy installation.
Self-Adhering Quick Roll Shingle Starter products ensure proper shingle alignment when applied to rakes and eaves prior to shingle installation. They ensure the first course of shingles is started correctly. The seal tab provides protection from wind uplift. These easy to handle 7-inch rolls eliminate the need for field cutting of three-tab or roll roofing products. The pre-cut design reduces labor cost and waste.
Easy Installation
Shingle starter is applied by positioning the roll beginning at the lowest corner of the roof where the rake and eave intersect. The roll should be aligned parallel with the edge of the eave and allowed to extend over the eave and rake approximately 3/8 in. with the granular surface up and the seal tab nearest the eave.
The release film then is carefully removed from the back of the roll, while pressing the shingle starter firmly into place for good adhesion. Shingles then are applied per the shingle manufacturer’s instructions.
The deck must be clean, dry and free of voids. For re-roofing applications, all old roofing and other loose materials must be removed. Application should be made when ambient temperatures are 50°F or higher.
