Roofing Contractors Are Raving about this Easy-to-Use Primary Roof

High-Quality Mineral-Surfaced Self-Adhering Cap Sheet Comes in Nine Colors

One of TARCO's best-selling products is the LeakBarrier® EasyStick ® Plus self-adhering mineral surface cap sheet membrane and the corresponding EasySystem products. This system is highly regarded by contractors and they are good for your bottom line, too.

EasyStick Plus was the first product in the LeakBarrier line of self-adhering modified bitumen membranes from TARCO. Now available in nine colors to match popular shingle colors, EasyStick Plus Cap Sheet remains one of TARCO's best performers in terms of sales volume and quality.

Technically speaking, EasyStick Plus is a premium, SBS modified, granule surfaced, polyester reinforced, self-adhesive bituminous membrane with a high tack self-adhesive compound on the bottom side for easy installation. EasyStick Plus is a perfect alternative to the application of roofing using conventional application methods of torching, hot asphalt mopping or using cold applied adhesives.

That hardly begins to describe the advantages of EasyStick Plus!

EasyStick Plus is reinforced with a high strength polyester mat that offers superior tensile, tear and elongation properties. The material also has exceptional dimensional stability to handle the expansion and contraction that a typical roof experiences over its lifetime. A specially formulated self-adhesive compound on the back side is designed to adhere to a wide variety of substrates such as plywood, Oriented Strand Board (OSB), metal, structural concrete, etc.

This peel-and-stick primary roof facilitates the work of roofing contractors. Depending on the type of construction and the local codes, EasyStick Plus is being applied as a primary roof on all sorts of buildings, including residential construction. The product meets the applicable specifications of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and is approved by various code bodies and jurisdictions such as the International Code Council (ICC), Miami-Dade County, Florida Building Commission (FBC) and the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI). EasyStick Plus is also offered in a "fire rated" version for use in UL Class A roofs.

The peel-and-stick feature speeds up the work of roofing contractors and lowers installation costs. As the demand for roofing labor reaches unprecedented high levels, EasyStick Plus offers a key strategic advantage to roofing contractors. Here's How It Works on Homes

EasyStick Plus is designed for use in new roofing and re-roofing and is ideally suited for residential low slope applications. Of course, the low cost and ease-of-use of EasyStick Plus makes it perfect for porches, carports and small commercial/industrial/institutional buildings. Yet, did you know that this versatile product is also being installed on high-end residential homes?

Such homes typically have large expanses of low-sloped roofing that are not readily covered with tiles or shingles. In the past, the builder would have to contend with hot asphalt or torch-applied systems.

No More!

A typical 2-ply EasySystem consists of the following construction:

  • The first ply is typically a base sheet that is either EasyNailBase, a mechanically attached SBS modified asphalt sheet reinforced with fiberglass OR EasyBase, a self-adhering-SBS modified asphalt sheet reinforced with fiberglass. Depending on the underlying-substrate, the roof specifications, and the applicable Building Code, either product can-be used. EasyNailBase has a sanded underside and a polyolefinic film on the upper--surface. The sand surface allows the product to be mechanically fastened to the roof deck or substrate and the polyolefinic film upper surface allows the direct adhesion of the-second layer. On the other hand, EasyBase has a self-adhesive compound on theunderside and a polyolefinic film on the upper surface. A split back poly release film is peeled away to expose the self-adhering underside.
  • The next and final layer is the EasyStick Plus cap sheet. This layer is similar to EasyBase-but it has a ceramic granular surface. EasyStick Plus is reinforced with polyester. The mineral surface of the cap sheet protects the membrane against ultraviolet rays. Otherwise, the asphalt coating would to deteriorate if exposed to UV rays for long periods.)

A bullet proof roofing system involves three plies of premium cap and base sheet membranes. The first ply consists of EasyNailBase that is mechanically fastened to the roof deck or substrate, followed by a mid-ply layer of EasyBase that is self-adhered to the EasyNailBase. The third and final layer is the EasyStick Plus membrane, which is self-adhered to EasyBase.

Residential roofing contractors are reaping the rewards of using EasyStick on upscale housing projects. One contractor installs residential roofing on high end homes with roofing areas ranging from 6,000 to 20,000 square feet – and selling prices ranging from $500K to three million dollars. These homes include large expanses of low-sloped roofing – a perfect application for EasyStick.

Odor Free, Hassle Free: Just Peel then Stick

The crew uses a 75-pound weighted roller across the field and a hand roller for details. A lot less equipment is used but the major benefits are in the labor savings. With the peel-and-stick, one just peels off the protective film and throws it away.

A major benefit of EasyStick is that there is no hot tar dripping on the site and that there is no need for hot torches. When installing EasyStick Plus, no specific tools are required. So it is clean and easy! No fumes during application and no odors caused by adhesives or hot asphalt.

It is vital to minimize odors

  • When roofs are installed on new residences in existing subdivisions.
  • When working in neighborhoods where people may be passing by the job site.
  • When working on government buildings.
  • When installing roofs on schools, hospital and Senior homes
  • Finally, on reroofing projects where there may be occupants in the building. Obviously odors can be an issue!

The key takeaway here is that this new paradigm in roofing is well suited to the latest trends in residential construction – where new homes have a few steep sections mixed with many large low slope sections.
